Day 1 Auckland: Arrive in Auckland
It is hard to image a city that is more geographically blessed than Auckland, where its two harbours flank the narrow isthmus punctuated by volcanic cones and surrounded by fertile land. As you get above the flatland and on to any one of the city’s many vantage points, you will realise how close you are to water. Upon arrival in Auckland Airport, pick up your self-drive car and head to your hotel. Check in and shake off the jet lag. You have the rest of the day at leisure where you can choose to head out and explore the city on your own.
Return to your hotel and get a good night’s sleep.
Day 2 Auckland: City tour and Beach Day out.
After enjoying a hearty breakfast, step on the gas as you take a drive through the city and take in its sights and sounds. Start your journey from One Tree Hill, a volcanic cone that was once considered to be the greatest fortress in the city. One of the key villages of the strait, back in the day, the Cornwall Park Information Center has a fascinating interactive display of what the place would have looked like when 5000 people resided here. Then we move on to the Mt. Eden Hill, which is considered to be the highest volcanic cone of Auckland. Drive along the Tamaki Drive and enjoy stunning views of the Bastion point. Finally, visit the Sky Tower, from where the entire city is laid out in front you. An observation, restaurant and telecommunication tower, this is the tallest building in New Zealand. After the day is well spent, drive back to your hotel and retire for the night.
Day 3 Coromandel: Arrive in Coromandel
Coromandel is a place where people often overstay their expectations. Its dramatic, mountainous spine bisects it into two very distinct parts: the east coast, with some of the best white sand beaches, and the western side with its cutesy gold mining towns. This gorgeous peninsula also offers opportunities to enjoy diving and snorkelling. Open up to a world of life beneath the waves as you swim in marine reserves, coves and sea caves.
After a delicious breakfast in your hotel in Auckland, enjoy your day at sea before you check into your hotel in Coromandel and retire for the night.
Day 4 Rotorua: Drive to Rotorua
After a wholesome breakfast, set out towards Rotorua. Enroute from Coromandel to Rotorua, you will have a chance to explore the extensive network of underground caves in the small village of Waitomo. World-renowned and a magnet for both local and overseas visitors, the Waitomo Glowworm Caves occupy a high placing in the New Zealand vacation wish-list. Marvel at Mother Nature's light display as you glide silently through the starry wonderland of the Glowworm Grotto. Meander underground along the Waitomo River and gaze in silence at the myriad of glow worm lights. Then as you reach Rotorua, check into the hotel and get a good night’s sleep.
Day 05 Rotorua: Explore Rotorua.
Post breakfast, head out to explore Rotorua. Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland is a spectacular showcase of New Zealand’s most colourful and unique geothermal elements sculpted by thousands of years of volcanic activity. Described by many as ‘one of the most surreal places on earth’, it’s high on the list of Rotorua’s must-see attractions. A place to marvel at nature’s artistic splendour the Wonderland is home to Lady Knox Falls, which provides a unique opportunity to see an eruption to heights of 10 to 20 metres and a Geothermal Park, with its uniquely different natural landscape. Enjoy the hot steaming beauty of this Geothermal park to your heart’s content before returning to your hotel in Rotorua for the night.
Day 06 Rotorua: Watersports at Taupo
After being served a delicious breakfast, experience the thrill of adrenalin activities like jet boating, bungy jumping, white water rafting and skydiving or relax in a healing geothermal hot pool or with a scenic cruise to the Mine Bay Maori Rock Carvings.There are waterfalls and ancient forests to discover, gourmet food, boutique shopping and art and craft galleries all accompanied by million-dollar views. Weather you wish to fly 1000 feet above the lake, or simple glide your kayak through the pristine waters, Lake Taupo will provide it all. After a day well spent at the water, return to your hotel in Rotorua.
Day 07 Queenstown: Drive back to Auckland and fly to Queenstown.
After a heart breakfast, drive back the Auckland where you will drop off the car and take a 1.5-hour long flight to Queenstown. Once you reach Queenstown, pick up your second self-drive car and find your way to the Skyline Gondola Ride. Situated just five minutes away from downtown, the Gondola ride is one of the major attractions in Queenstown, offering unparalleled panoramic views of the skyline. Not only is the gondola ride an unforgettable experience, the Skyline also offers a multitude of activities such as Luge, Mountain Biking and star gazing.
After having spent enough time at Skyline Queenstown, drive you way back to the hotel and retire for the night.
Day 08 Queenstown: Wine and more thrills.
Our first stop for the day is Arrow Town, where history meets nature. Arrowtown is a lively, quirky, historic village. Relaxed visitors browse its heritage main street, and outdoors lovers revel in its network of beautiful summer trails and winter ski-fields. Then we move on to Gibbston Valley where you will enjoy a wine tasting tour through New Zealand’s largest wine cave.
After spending a quiet morning, now it is time for some thrill. Not only is Queenstown the bungy capital of New Zealand’s adventure industry, it’s ground-zero for commercial bungy jumping anywhere in the world and when here, we have to give you a chance to experience it first-hand.
Return to reality post that stunning day as your drive back to your hotel for the night.
Day 09 Te Anau: Milford Sound and Te Anau
Known as the gateway to Fiordland national park and Milford sound, Te Anau is a small town where all the Fjord adventures start. Deep within Fiordland National Park lies Milford Sound, New Zealand’s most stunning natural attraction, Milford Sound. With its magical combination of mountain peaks, ink-dark waters and superb dramatic forest-clad cliffs, it must be seen to be believed. Enjoy a cruise that will take you out on the water and ensure that you see the Fjords in all their glory.
Steady your feet after that day spent in the water as you take the wheel and zoom away to the hotel in Te Anau.
Day 10 Te Anau: Half Day tour of Glenorchy.
After a delicious breakfast, head out to Glenorchy, a small alpine village known as “The Gateway to Paradise” and the perfect side trip from Queenstown. You may also recognise Glenorchy as Middle Earth, as there are many ‘Lord of The Rings’ and ‘The Hobbit” movie settings nearby amongst the spectacular mountain backdrop. The small town is a great option if you want to be beside the lake and the mountains but prefer to stay once removed from the bustle and bluster of Queenstown. The tramping around Glenorchy is sensational, and the town is also a base for horse treks, helicopter flights and skydives.
Here in Glenorchy you will have a chance to experience an adrenaline rush like never before as you participate in the Sky Diving activity. Return to your hotel in Te Anau and relax for the night.
Day 11 Queenstown: Back to Queenstown with Lake Wanaka & Puzzling world enroute.
Located in the stunning alps of the South Island in New Zealand, visitors from around the world are drawn to the Wanaka region by its outstanding natural beauty. Wanaka’s lakes and mountains and proximity to Mt Aspiring National Park, makes it the ultimate base for outdoor activities. But it’s not just the outdoor enthusiasts who have plenty to do, stroll the streets and be inspired by galleries, stylish shops and be spoilt for choice with a great selection of cool cafes and restaurants.
You will also enjoy a visit to the puzzling world. For over forty-five years Puzzling World has been messing with people’s heads no matter what age, nationality or experience. With a mix of bizarre buildings, rooms of illusion and the world-famous Great Maze this attraction is designed to baffle your brain and challenge your perceptions of reality. After exploring both these places thoroughly, drive down to Queenstown where you will check into your hotel and retire for the night.
Day 12 Christchurch: Arrive in Christchurch.
Wake up as and when you please, and head for breakfast as you have the morning at leisure. Should you like, you have the option of taking a helicopter ride to the Glacier with snow landing. In the afternoon, proceed towards the decked up town of Christchurch where its European heritage is disrupted by wild untamable nature.
Check into the hotel and relax.
Day 13 Christchurch: Akaroa cruise.
Akaroa (Long Harbour) was the site of the country’s first French settlement, and it’s a charming town that strives to recreate the feel of a French provincial village, down to the names of its streets and houses. Experience majestic scenery here and stunning wildlife, including Hector’s dolphins, blue penguins and birdlife, on Akaroa cruise. Spend the day at sea as you take in the views of the beautiful city. Dock at the port and head back to the hotel.
Day 14 Christchurch: Sightseeing in Christchurch and Departure
After a heart breakfast set out to explore the city of Christchurch where curious travellers revel in the chaotic, crazy and colourful mix, full of surprises and inspiring in ways you can't even imagine. Cover all the major attractions such as Canterbury University,
Riccarton House and Riccarton Bush, Mona Vale, Hagley Park, Antigua Boat Sheds, Botanical
Gardens and the Victoria clock tower. Post the tour, late evening drive to Christchurch airport where you will handover the car and head for your flight home with a bag full of memories.
